Our History West Hills Community College District has a rich history of serving the educational needs of the west side of the San Joaquin Valley for more than 80 years. The district covers nearly 3,500 square miles with colleges in Lemoore and Coalinga, the Firebaugh Center and three child development centers throughout neighboring rural communities, and the Farm of the Future facility at the north end of Coalinga. Summary Coalinga College (CC) seeks a full-time multimedia designer faculty member (non-tenure). The ideal candidate will share the College's commitment to advance student achievement and success. The selected candidate will combine various technology and digital resources to support the creation of visual and interactive content for teaching, learning, and development. The multimedia designer will support instruction and faculty teaching in face-to-face, hybrid, online instruction, and courses offered in offsite/community locations. This includes support for instructional courses, audio or video components, and other training resources for faculty, staff, and students. Teaching and support assignments will include courses at the Coalinga College, Firebaugh Center and/or other off campus sites. Offsite locations may include correctional institutions as part of the Rising Scholars Program, high schools as part of the Dual Enrollment/Early College Program, and/or other community locations. The successful candidate will exhibit a passion for educating a student population through culturally responsive pedagogical and andragogical teaching methods and demonstrate the use of effective practices for engaging students with diverse learning needs, backgrounds, and academic goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The duties below are representative and are not intended to cover all the duties performed in this position.
- Collaborates with faculty to integrate student-centered approaches, related technology, multi-media, and learning practices into the creation, development, implementation, and management of instructional content, courses, and projects within the College's learning management system to enhance teaching and learning.
- Provides support for related instructional initiatives to enhance learning outcomes, support technology-enhanced teaching, and promote innovative curricular and instructional practices across online, face-to-face, and hybrid learning formats.
- Provide hands-on support to faculty on the use of technology including multimedia in course design, course development, learning objectives, classroom management, active learning, assessment methods, and teaching strategies for face-to-face, hybrid and online courses plus classes offered in offsite locations.
- Support faculty in the work involved with the California Virtual Campus (CVC) Online Education Initiative (OEI), Open Education Resources (OER)/Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC), Guided Pathways, and other related efforts to assure collaboration, development, and innovation to advance student achievement in successful course completion, certificate/degree attainment, transfer, and career readiness.
- Work with faculty to explore and implement methods and practices to integrate the various efforts and elements to avoid duplication, streamline approaches, and maximize resources.
- Present on-campus and online structured professional development and teaching and learning opportunities for faculty and classified staff through individual consultation, programs, and workshops. Through professional development training activities, promote mastery of technology skills and pedagogy to design and deliver successful face-to-face, hybrid and online courses.
- Participate in assessment of online and hybrid courses to ensure regular substantive interaction between instructor and student is included in all distance education courses
- Maintain currency regarding copyright, accessibility compliance (Section 504 and Section 508) regulations for all instructional materials, state authorization for distance education, and student authentication for online and hybrid courses
- Implement creative approaches and innovative uses of technology and teaching/learning practices to address different learning styles, diverse student populations, variety of course content, and accessibility guidelines.
- Provide expert feedback and support to faculty based on evidence practices enhancing course design, development, and delivery.
- Create partnerships and provide support for faculty and classified staff in implementing effective use of technology, multimedia, and other learning practices to support teaching and development.
- Maintain currency in knowledge and trends related to technology/multimedia used in teaching and learning and application of practices to enhance teaching and learning of diverse populations
- Create documentation and an inventory of resources of potential interest to faculty
- Evaluate and assess workshops, teaching and learning sessions, course design/development/delivery and work to develop plans and actions for improvement.
- Review applicable data and information related to instruction and student success to develop and promote course design/development/delivery and change.
- Promote teaching and learning and educational technology practices to meet the diverse and varied needs of students and to advance successful course completion, degree/certificate attainment, transfer, and career readiness.
- Coordinate with colleagues within the District on initiatives and efforts to promote instructional design.
- Must be flexible and be available to support evening and weekend instructors including instructors teaching in offsite locations
- Perform broader instructional design and support projects as needed and as assigned.
- Assist with the design/development/delivery/facilitation/teaching in non-traditional format including credit for prior learning, competency-based education, etc., to meet student need.
- May serve as a faculty liaison in specialized or designated program areas as necessary to support instruction and student success.
- Works as part of a team to facilitate, coordinate, and promote teaching and learning, student engagement, student success, and the use of multimedia and technology in classes.
- Assists faculty and staff with developing and designing courses and online learning content for different audiences including the use various course design/development tools.
- Builds and maintains effective relationships with discipline faculty and assists with the development of content that supports what students need to learn, sequencing of the content, and development/design of content.
- Participates in the process for systematic review and evaluation of multimedia, technology, and/or teaching, online/hybrid, and learning practices and tools and to assist the college with identifying and/or implementing alternative tools and practices.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and related discussions to maintain and increase currency in knowledge of multimedia/technology including teaching and learning practices.
- Work closely with faculty to integrate technology and multimedia tools as part of teaching and learning practices and applications.
- Work with college personnel on Artificial Intelligence tools and practices to support teaching and learning.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Qualification
Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Abilities:- Knowledge of, and familiarity with the mission, vision, and philosophies of California Community Colleges.
- Ability to instruct and evaluate learners effectively.
- Demonstrated understanding of issues of equity in higher education and strategies to address equity gaps.
- Experience with educational technology including teaching and learning practices that engages students in their own learning process and develops critical thinking skills.
- Ability to train, coach, and mentor faculty and staff.
- Ability to develop technology/multimedia design learning approaches.
- Ability to implement contemporary teaching and learning practices and technologies to promote and effectively facilitate innovation in education.
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of and ability to communicate various issues and concerns facing historically underrepresented students as it relates to course content.
- Ability and commitment to working with a diverse division/team on implementing highly effective inclusive, culturally responsive practices and participating in dialogue on equity in education.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and community organizations as well as to be involved in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development through memberships in regional, state, and national organizations or other activities appropriate to the assignment.
- Knowledge and experience with the use of technology in performing instructional and non-instructional duties, including distance education technology, online course delivery, computerized presentations, Microsoft Office Suite, and other multimedia and technology programs.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students.
- Ability to use data to drive decisions regarding student success and retention.
- Evidence of an ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidence-based assessment of learning.
- Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
- Two years of relevant experience working with multimedia design and technology including familiarity with the Canvas learning management system and content development applications. Proficiency in tools such as Microsoft office products, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, HTML, etc. and social media platforms.
