Solutions Engineer - Security Systems (Truckee)
The Solutions Engineer supports the sales process by designing security systems tailored to each customer’s unique environment. This role conducts virtual site assessments, develops system layouts, and prepares proposals and cost estimates for surveillance and security system deployments. The Solutions Engineer works closely with sales representatives and subcontractors to translate site conditions and customer requirements into well-designed security solutions that are accurately scoped and ready for installation. This role is well suited for someone with experience in physical security systems, low-voltage installations, surveillance systems, or security system integration who enjoys designing solutions and working with customers.
Key Responsibilities Site Assessments- Conduct virtual site walks with prospective customers to evaluate security needs and site conditions
- Assess site layout, infrastructure, connectivity, and coverage requirements
- Document site conditions to support system design and installation planning
- Design site-specific security systems including camera placement, coverage zones, and monitoring areas
- Design systems that integrate existing security networks
- Develop system layouts that provide effective visibility and coverage
- Create design documentation to support installation and deployment planning
- Prepare proposals and system estimates based on approved system designs
- Develop equipment lists, system specifications, and installation scope
- Build and maintain accurate calculators using Excel or similar tools
- Maintain proposal documentation and track active quotes
- Coordinate with subcontractors to obtain site walk feedback and installation pricing
- Work with low-voltage installers, electricians, networking technicians, and security contractors to scope projects accurately
- Ensure installation requirements are clearly defined in proposals and project documentation
- Partner with sales representatives throughout the pre-sales process
- Provide technical expertise during discovery calls and customer meetings
- Assist in presenting system designs and answering technical questions
- Ensure proposed solutions are technically sound and feasible to deploy
- Confirm equipment compatibility, networking requirements, and installation readiness
- Experience designing or supporting physical security or surveillance systems
- Strong understanding of IP camera systems, networking, and system architecture
- Experience creating system layouts, equipment lists, and project cost estimates
- Ability to scope installation work including low-voltage cabling, camera mounting, and networking requirements
- Experience coordinating with low-voltage installers, electricians, or security system contractors
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical solutions to customers
- Experience working for a security systems integrator, surveillance provider, or low-voltage installation company
- Experience using system design or diagramming tools to create system layouts
- Strong proficiency in Excel or similar tools for building system estimates
- Experience supporting pre-sales engineering or technical sales processes
