Job Description and Duties

Operate Category 1 and Category 2 equipment used by the assigned unit. Equipment such as but not limited to: end-dump trucks from 2 to 10 cu. yards, with either automatic or manual transmission, equipped with snow plows and sanders. May also operate front-end loaders, motor graders, snow blowers, equipment trailers, rear & side flail mowers, slope mowers and other related vehicles while performing stated duties.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Equipment Operator II exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions

Position located in Rancho Cordova, Sacramento County.

Required to work in a wide range of sometimes extreme conditions, including heat up to 120 degrees, cold to –15 degrees, strong winds, rain, sleet, and snow. Incumbent may be scheduled to work the night shift during the months of December, January, February, and March or as scheduled by the Maintenance Supervisor. Will be required to work overtime due to storms, emergencies, special work projects, or when the Supervisor deems that it is in the best interest of the State to work overtime.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Special Requirements

• The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.
• The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.

Occasional travel may be required. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.

The position(s) require(s) a valid unrestricted Class A commercial driver’s license, with Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement.

This position is subject to the Post & Bid process.
