Under the general direction of the Deputy Bureau Chief of Enforcement (CEA-A), the Supervising Property Appraiser/Investigator plans, directs and supervises the enforcement activities; performs the most difficult, sensitive or complex property appraisal examination and investigative functions relating to the investigation of complaints against real estate appraisers and Appraisal Management Companies (AMCs), and the licensing of real estate appraisers and registration of AMCs.

Working Conditions

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period as outlined on "Section 2113 - Personal Leave Program (PLP)" of the CalHR Manual. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.

Work in a first-floor office with artificial light and temperature control 40 hours per week. Work on a computer for prolonged periods of time, consistent with office work. Dress in accordance with an office environment. Select, access, and use necessary information, data, and communications-related technologies daily, such as personal computer applications, telecommunications equipment, Internet, voicemail, etc. Travel is required approximately 5 percent of the time to conduct site visits of properties, governmental offices and to attend administrative hearings. The incumbent is required to travel throughout an assigned geographical area by various methods of transportation.

Special Requirements

- Must hold a full Real Estate Appraisers license in good standing, at either the residential certification or general certification level, issued by the California BREA.

- A valid California Driver's license is required.

Conflict of Interest: This position is subject to Title 16, section 3830 of the California Code of Regulations, the Department of Consumer Affairs' Conflict of Interest Regulations. The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1, and within 30 days of leaving office.

- Experience writing issue papers, investigative reports, or other forms of analytical writing.

- Ability to learn, understand, and follow Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Real Estate

- Appraisers and control agencies' policies, procedures, and guidelines.
