Job Description and Duties

Under general supervision of the Education Administrator I of the Facilities Planning Policy and Standards (FPPS) Unit within School Facilities and Transportation Services Division (SFTSD), the Education Programs Consultant (EPC) serves as the FPPS Legislative Specialist, applying California Education Code, California Code of Regulations and other related law that impact FPPS and SFTSD operations including matters that may come before the State Board of Education to ensure that state and local stakeholders receive the support and guidance necessary to provide California’s students with the best programs possible.


The EPC collects, organizes and analyzes an array of state and local data to inform their work, and applies California Education Code and regulation in variety of contexts including SBE waiver request and school district organization petitions. In addition, the EPC will track legislative bills that my impact the work of the unit or division, write and submit analysis of bills assigned, and take a leading role in developing bill analysis skills within the unit.


A successful candidate will be well-versed in California education law and regulation and skilled in data analysis, technical writing, and preparing and delivering presentations. The EPC will be comfortable mentoring division staff in bill analysis as well as speaking with local education leaders and elected officials and CDE and SBE leadership.

Working Conditions

HYBRID

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and working a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.
