Public Records Act (PRA) Coordinator

Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Supervisor I , t he Analyst II (AN II) serves as a Public Records Act (PRA) Coordinator for the California Justice Information Services Division and the various programs within its bureaus. This requires the AN II to think critically and work independently to review and respond to PRA requests submitted to the Department from a number of entities, private organizations, and the public.

The AN II must have the ability to tactfully elicit information and cooperation from Division personnel at varying levels of authority, with stringent deadlines, and must manage and maintain strong relationships with a broad set of stakeholders. The position requires the AN II to be able to reason logically and creatively, utilize a variety of analytical techniques to resolve complex problems, develop and evaluate alternatives, analyze data and present ideas effectively both orally and in writing, and consult with and advise administrators on subject matter related to the Division’s systems. The AN II must maintain confidentiality and exercise a high level of discretion.

Working Conditions

This position is designated for telework under Government Code section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California and may require reporting to headquarters or field offices and facilities to fulfill operational needs. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Justice policies.

This position is eligible for telework, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

• Experience handling California Public Records Act (PRA) requests is preferred, but not required.
• Excellent analytical, writing, and research skills, with a strong attention to detail.
• Great organizational and time-management skills; flexible with strict, competing deadlines or changing priorities.
• Superb customer service skills; the ability to use tact and diplomacy with all levels of staff and stakeholders.
• Ability to creatively problem-solve and present solutions for complex requests.
• Experience using Microsoft Office products, SharePoint and/or specialized software (such as NextRequest).
• Comfortable handling sensitive or confidential information and working directly with legal counsel.
