: Position Summary:

Casella is seeking an Indirect Tax Accountant to join the Corporate Tax team. Reporting to the Vice President of Taxation, this individual would be responsible, along with others, for indirect tax (primarily sales and use) compliance, software and process enhancements and all aspects of planning and controversy/audit matters. The incumbent will have 2 to 5 years of sales and use tax experience in a large corporate, governmental taxing authority or public accounting environment.

The individual will work in the West Rutland, Vermont office. Key Responsibilities:

• Gathers and manipulates data and coordinates with external service providers to prepare sales and use tax returns across all U.S. states.
• Performs tax technical research related to sales and use tax and other indirect tax matters.
• Participates in use tax accrual reviews.
• Assists in validating data and proper calculation and collection of sales tax in all states using various AR/sales software systems.
• Aids with implementation of new AR/sales system and sales tax engine.
• Works with vendors and internal purchasing teams on sales & use tax matters, including claiming various exemptions or abatements.
• Documents indirect tax issues and resolutions.
• Accommodates indirect tax audits, refund claims and coordinate responses to various tax authorities.
• Prepares and maintain tax calendar for indirect tax licenses, filings, as well as assist in various administrative matters.
• Validates and manages sales tax exemption certificates.
• Coordinates with external service providers to manage heavy vehicle and fuel excise taxes.

Education, Experience & Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a strong work ethic, have an Associate's Degree in Accounting or a Finance/Business related degree and 2 to 6 years of experience in an accounting or tax role. The incumbent must have a demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team-based environment. A solid understanding of general accounting rules, detail-oriented and strong organizing skills, strong follow through skills, and an ability to multi-task and meet consistent deadlines are required. Excellent listening and communication skills, an ability to adapt to change and be adept at identifying issues and formulating solutions are necessary. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and a customer service approach to working with internal departments and outside customers are expected. Although not required, a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or other Finance/Business related degree is preferred.
