Job Description and Duties

Using a computer, creates and updates carrier and terminal inspection information in the Commercial Information Records and Evaluations System (CIRES). Establishes and maintains record keeping and suspense systems to monitor Motor Carrier Safety Operations Program activities for carrier and terminal inspections, certifications of passenger-carrying vehicles including school buses, farm labor vehicels, school pupil activity buses, general public para-transit vehicles, and youth buses. Prepares suspense lists for field inspectors. Compiles statistical data summaries and studies. Answers and screens telephone calls coming into the Motor Carrier Safety Unit (MCSU). Directs calls to appropriate resources. Addresses inquiries pertaining to Carrier Identification (CA) number applications. Processes applications for CA numbers. Accesses Department of Motor Vehicles Employer Pull-Notice system, registration and driver license data to assist MCSU personnel in completing assigned duties. updates and maintains files of completed inspections, certifications and other related information for each motor carrier inspection activity. Creates/maintains suspense logs to monitor receipt, inspection, and response to Commercial Vehicle Section regarding Public Utilities Commission (PUC) inspection requests, youth bus, GPPV, and Initial Hazardous Materials Transportation License applications. Maintains Electronic Training Records System (ETRS) for non-uniformed personnel assigned to the Special Services Command. Maintains and audits Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance(CVSA) and Farm Labor Vehicle (FLV) decal distribution records and accountability reports for all Coastal Division commercial enforcement personnel, including MCSU, Commercial Enforcement Unit, and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility employees. Prepares and forwards various reports to CVS including monthly Field Activity Reports, special project reports, and Annual School Bus Mileage Reports. Maintains inventory of forms and supplies, and prepares the quarterly supply requisitions for the Motor Carrier Safety Unit.

Special Requirements

• The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired.
