Automotive Instructor
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Department of Automotive Technology is dedicated to producing high quality, entry-level automotive technicians. We accomplish this by providing our students with ASE Education Foundation Certified automotive programs. Students have the option of the General (non-manufacture specific) program, the Honda PACT program, or our heavy-duty diesel Kenworth program. The new member of our team should look forward to the challenges of maintaining and improving the high standards of our various programs.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering instructional lectures and labs for Automotive and/or Diesel Technology courses up to 20 hours/week; organizing and teaching all levels of automotive technology classes; using appropriate teaching methods to facilitate student learning; teaching day, evening, and/or weekend teaching assignments, which may include distance learning (use modern computer software to facilitate); assessing Student Learning Outcomes every semester; participating in department, and college-wide initiatives, development and committees; and maintaining industry recognized training certification. POSITION DUTIES: .
In addition to the representative duties below, the specific position will:
- Conduct lecture and laboratory instruction in all ASE certification areas (including heavy duty diesel).
- Develop curriculum and lab objectives within the Automotive and/or Diesel Program.
- Be willing to teach non-traditional teaching times (evening and weekend classes).
- Help maintain fleet vehicles and equipment including diagnosis and repair.
- Comply with ASE Education Foundation accreditation standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience; OR
- A ny associate’s degree and six years of professional experience; OR
- Possession of a current California Community College Credential that permits full-time service as an instructor in the applicable discipline; OR
- The equivalent (Applicants wishing to be considered for employment under District equivalency standards must submit a detailed statement explaining how you possess the equivalent to the minimum qualifications discussed above.)
*Degrees must involve a general education component. Applicants without a degree or with a degree lacking the general education component may be considered if they possess other training and/or experience determined to be equivalent to the general education component . Applicants possessing such training and/or experience are encouraged to request equivalency.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Full-time work experience with an emphasis in Brakes, Steering, Alignment, Suspension, & Chassis Electrical repair, diagnosis and maintenance.
- Can show industry currency through any automotive repair industry recognized training and full-time work experience within the last five years.
- Full-time or part-time teaching experience in automotive at a high school, trade school, or community college. Preference given to teaching experience in Brakes, Steering, Alignment Suspension, & Chassis Electrical.
- Be certified or currently enrolled to complete testing for certification in course areas ASE A1-A9, G1, L1 & L4.
- Familiarity with ADAS systems.
- Possession of a current ASE Master Automotive Technician certification.
- Possession of an A/C 609 Certification.
- Smog license for repair and inspection; preferably a Certified Instructor.
- Experience or training with software such as Zoom, Microsoft Office Suite, Alldata, ProDemand, or other Industry recognized electronic publications.
