Product Manager, Foundations - UI Systems
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale. Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. UI Systems exists to help teams across Square deliver high-quality, accessible interfaces with speed and confidence. We build and maintain the foundational design system, Market, along with the tools, processes, frameworks, and infrastructure that support it. Our work is the backbone of Square’s experience and the foundation that product teams build on every day. We partner closely with product, engineering, and design teams.
Your impact will be measured by how effectively our system accelerates product development, improves quality, ensures consistency, and positions Square to take advantage of emerging technologies like AI-driven design and generative UI.
You Will
- Define and co-create the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Square’s design system in partnership with Design and Engineering
- Partner across orgs and company-wide to drive design system initiatives that fuel Square’s long-term growth
- Partner with Design, Engineering, and Accessibility teams to prioritize and deliver foundational components, frameworks, and infrastructure
- Establish clear success metrics and ensure our design system drives efficiency, usability, and consistency across Square products.
- Advocate for best practices in system design and scalability, fostering a culture of collaboration and adoption across teams.
- Balance long-term strategic investments with near-term partner needs to maximize impact across the product ecosystem.
You Have
- 5+ years of product management experience, ideally with design systems, developer platforms, or infrastructure products.
- Strong understanding of UI/UX principles, accessibility standards, and front-end technologies.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience working with design and engineering partners to ship high-quality, scalable systems.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across disciplines and levels of the organization.
- A data-driven mindset with a strong ability to define and track success metrics.

- Google Suite, Airtable, Figma, React, accessibility testing frameworks, and design token management tools.
