Picture yourself delivering advanced cardiac care along the Central Coast, where sunsets over the Pacific meet vibrant farms, and the pace invites both focus and balance. This assignment begins February 16, 2026, and is structured as a weeks‑long engagement designed to flex with your career goals while delivering outstanding patient outcomes.
San Luis Obispo offers a delightful blend of coastal beauty, outdoor adventure, dining, and culture. From pristine beaches and scenic hiking trails to the nearby wine country and historic missions, the region invites recovery after challenging shifts and provides ample opportunities to recharge between cases. You’ll be part of a network that supports your growth, with the chance to broaden your clinical bandwidth while enjoying the unique lifestyle that California’s Central Coast affords.
Your role will center on caring for post‑operative cardiac patients and those with acute cardiac conditions in a busy CVICU. Core responsibilities include continuous hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, coordinating with cardiothoracic surgeons and perfusion teams, titrating vasoactive medications, managing chest tubes and lines, ultrasound/vascular access as needed, infection prevention, patient and family education, and meticulous charting in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment. You’ll participate in rounds, contribute to care plans, and support professional growth through exposure to advanced hemodynamics, ECMO considerations, and surge planning. Expect collaborative practice with ICU fellows, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and wound/diabetes educators to ensure comprehensive, evidence‑based care. We emphasize proactive safety culture, rapid problem solving, and the ethical dimensions of critical care, while you expand your competence in CVICU protocols, post‑op recovery trajectories, and cardiac rehabilitation principles. We offer a competitive weekly pay range of $2,378 to $2,472, plus a bonus, housing assistance, and extension opportunities if you wish to continue with additional CVICU assignments. You’ll have robust support from our clinical leadership and travel specialists, including 24/7 assistance while you’re on the road, ensuring you’re never alone on a difficult shift. Flexible scheduling, orientation resources, and ongoing mentorship help you navigate complex cases with confidence and emerge ready for the next level of responsibility.
In addition to clinical acuity, this role emphasizes professional development and career advancement. You’ll have access to structured pathways that recognize your CVICU expertise and your commitment to patient‑centered care. Training modules, simulation sessions, and case reviews provide continual growth opportunities, while your interactions with seasoned CVICU professionals offer real‑world mentorship. Our team celebrates clinical excellence and diversity, fostering a work environment where your voice contributes to quality improvement initiatives, patient safety enhancements, and interprofessional collaboration. You will be supported in pursuing specialty certifications or credentials pertinent to cardiac critical care, with guidance from leaders who prioritize your long‑term success within the specialty and beyond.
