Location: Murrieta, CA – Inland Empire
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Salary Range: $97,188 – $100,000, depending on experience
Position Overview
A leading nonprofit organization is seeking a Director of Development to lead and expand its fundraising efforts in the Inland Empire region. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in managing diverse revenue streams, leading regional campaigns, cultivating major donors, overseeing events, and aligning local strategies with organizational goals.
This role reports directly to the Assistant Vice President of Development and offers a full benefits package starting the first of the month following hire.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising (70%)
- Develop and execute an annual regional development plan in coordination with organizational strategy.
- Lead efforts in major gifts, individual giving, sponsorships, grants, and signature fundraising events.
- Oversee donor engagement and stewardship to ensure long-term support and retention.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate data tracking and timely reporting.
- Manage relationships with community groups, agencies, and corporate partners.
- Coordinate logistics and execution of events, ensuring strong ROI and donor satisfaction.
- Serve as a key representative at community events and fundraising initiatives.
Leadership & Team Management (25%)
- Provide leadership to internal staff and volunteer committees focused on development initiatives.
- Build and support regional development councils and event leadership teams.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and management of volunteers and interns.
- Contribute to strategic planning and participate in organization-wide initiatives as needed.
- Lead special projects and collaborative efforts to enhance regional visibility and support.
Administration (5%)
- Monitor and manage the regional development budget.
- Ensure compliance with organizational finance policies and reporting protocols.
- Submit timely and accurate expense reports, mileage logs, and related documentation.
- Oversee maintenance of regional assets and facilities in partnership with local leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, development, or nonprofit leadership.
- Proven experience managing donor portfolios and leading successful fundraising campaigns.
- Strong communication, writing, and public speaking skills.
- High proficiency in CRM systems (preferably Raiser’s Edge/NXT) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends and travel throughout the assigned region.
- Valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance.
- Ability to pass background and reference checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading major gift initiatives ($5,000+).
- Familiarity with community outreach and government or law enforcement partnerships.
- Knowledge of nonprofit operations and special event management.
- Prior leadership in mission-driven or athlete-focused organizations.
Working Conditions
The role is primarily office-based with routine travel throughout the Inland Empire. The work environment is professional, collaborative, and fast-paced. Occasional lifting of materials (up to 24 pounds) may be required.
