Sous Chef
Job description
Popular restaurant in Venice Beach is excited to bring on a Sous Chef. Our Sous will be a top leadership role, working with Executive Sous, FOH Management and Ownership. We expect the candidate to assist in running all of the BOH operations and administrative duties for the BOH. As one of the most important roles, the Sous must demonstrate exemplary leadership, communication and technical ability.
We are a casual, elegant restaurant serving breakfast, lunch & dinner. We take inspiration from the market and our travels. Our goal is to make our area a destination for people seeking amazing food and hospitality.
The Sous is expected to accomplish the following:
Administrative
- Maintain BOH labor % and food cost goals
- Lead in hiring all BOH staff
- Effectively handle conflict within BOH team and take actions to remedy and help HR situations
- Appropriately schedule staff to maintain highest quality production and minimize overtime whenever possible
- Consistent and scheduled communication with ownership and management teams
- Problem solving and using foresight to plan ahead
- Delegate effectively to sous chef and lead line cooks to ensure management and leadership structure of the kitchen is running smooth
- Help to constantly edit, improve and enforce BOH check lists, par counts, and order guides
Overall
- Constantly inspire, teach, and create a happy restaurant
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness and organization throughout the kitchen line and prep kitchen
- Lead and assist in all BOH ordering
- Address any maintenance issues as soon as they arise and properly communicate and see issues are fixed
- Teaching and training of all staff on new dishes and new employees
- Embody and teach our culture and restaurant policy
- Ensure line is set up properly and on time
- Ensure food is being sent to guests within the appropriate times and of the highest quality
- Work with ownership on menu creation
Job Requirements
Above all job experience, we first prioritize candidates who are effective communicators, stellar problem solvers, fantastic leaders, and have a natural friendliness. In addition to these qualities all applying candidates must have:
- High school diploma
- At least 2 years in a BOH management position
- Ability to work flexible hours
- An up to date Manager ServSafe Certification and Food Handlers Certification
