Corporate Veterinary Purchasing Manager

OVERVIEW:
The Purchasing Manager will lead all aspects of our procurement strategic processes and the supporting system enablement across all our veterinary hospital locations. The Purchasing Manager is the conduit, connecting procurement strategies, business processes and tools, and technological functions and systems capabilities across the entire Companion hospital portfolio.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage new hospital vendor integration pricing accuracy across locations
- Outline strategy and implementation of new technology
- Ensure reduction of COGS as a % of revenue across the portfolio & helping implement a hospital inventory/ equipment trade program (ex. craigslist for our portfolio)
- Establish a strong relationship with operations, hospital managers, DVMs, finance & accounting to develop and implement procurement strategies
- Must be able to handle multiple projects at a time, working closely with each of the customers to mutually define needs/requirements in order to drive the procurement process across the organization while maintaining compliance with corporate policies
- Develop solid understanding of veterinary industry related to assigned categories, including costs, demand-supply drivers, and trends
- Establish a good and collaborative relationship with existing and new suppliers
- Forecast events through data analysis, foresee market changes and make recommendations to preempt changing conditions
- Negotiate with external vendors to secure advantageous terms
- Review existing contracts to improve terms and prepare for renegotiations at end of term
- Deliver productivity cost savings year over year on key performance indicators
- Communicate and align category sourcing strategies with key business stakeholders
- Develop and execute strategic projects to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage
COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:
- Excellent contractual, analytical and negotiation skills.
- 5+ years experience in purchasing, preferably in multi-site healthcare/veterinary hospitals
- Knowledge of medical products, equipment and supplies
- Strong commercial acumen to negotiate and manage contracts and spot purchases with suppliers and years of strong savings
- Capable of working with internal customers to define needs and potential suppliers that meet requirements.
- Capable of managing multiple projects at one time
- Highly motivated, results focused and act with a high sense of urgency
- Ability to interface and communicate clearly and effectively (both orally and in writing) across multiple levels of the organization, including senior executives.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and cross-culturally with colleagues and suppliers. Strong conflict resolution skills.
- Create, guide, and execute procurement process across multiple departments
- Willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team committed to creating facilities to ensure the best care for pets
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Management or related field
TRAVEL
- >40% to Companion veterinary hospitals in the Western United States
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
