Staff Accountant

1x
Palo Alto, CA

We are seeking a meticulous and highly organized Staff Accountant with a strong background in accounts payable and payroll operations. This role plays a vital part in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring timely payment processing, and administering end-to-end payroll for employees. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of accounting principles, demonstrate compliance with regulatory standards, and handle confidential information with a high level of discretion and integrity.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Execute and support full-cycle accounting operations, such as AP/AR processes, that include vendor management, invoicing, payment processing, and collection support as needed.
  • Maintain accuracy of the general ledger by analyzing and reconciling key accounts
  • Help ensure compliance with applicable guidance (US GAAP), internal controls, and corporate accounting policies
  • Support and assist with external audits/reviews, preparing schedules and documentation
  • Support tax filings, business license renewals, and other compliance-related reporting
  • Conduct light technical accounting research to ensure compliance with applicable guidance (US GAAP).
  • Support AP operations and reconciliation in partnership with HR and external vendors.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Help identify and implement process improvements as we scale our financial infrastructure.

Must-Haves:

  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA preferred, but not required.
  • Understanding of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles and practices
  • Strong Accounts Payable experience, with the ability to contribute to broader accounting functions (not AP-specialist only).
  • Solid knowledge of reconciliations, month-end close, and journal entry preparation.
  • Exposure to or interest in technical accounting topics and ability to conduct research when needed.
  • Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills and proficiency with modern accounting systems and ERPs (e.g., NetSuite, RAMP, Stampli)
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Startup or hardware experience is a plus, but not required.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with Big 4 firms and/or the manufacturing industry
  • Experience with system implementations
  • Knowledge of GAAP and internal control procedures

Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and holidays
