This internship is a part of a 10-week full-time summer internship program opportunity. This role will be based at Archer’s headquarters in San Jose, California and relocation or housing will not be provided.

Archer is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to join Archer. This internship provides a hands-on opportunity to gain practical experience within the Battery Management System (BMS) team. The Battery Controls Engineer Intern will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and optimal performance of our BMS state estimation and prediction algorithms.This role is important because the employee will contribute directly to the development of rigorous accuracy analysis and simulation frameworks crucial for validating the system against complex aerospace certification standards. The intern's work will directly support the goal of deploying a safe, high-performance electric aircraft designed to transform urban air mobility.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop a comprehensive pipeline for battery temperature state estimation accuracy analysis, including:
    • Collaborate with test engineers to develop and execute tests to evaluate battery thermal performance and collect data for validation
    • Quantify discrepancies between online BMS estimations, high-fidelity thermal models, and experimental data
    • Identify and analyze error sources that may contribute to estimation inaccuracy
    • [Stretch goal] Architect and implement an automated simulation framework capable of handling large-scale testing and simulation needs

What You Need:

  • Going into the 2nd or 3rd year in college career
  • Understanding in Li-ion battery cell behavior and battery management system architectures
  • Experience with simulation and programming tools such as Simulink and Python

Summer 2026 Internship Program Details:

  • This internship is a part of a 10-week full-time summer internship program opportunity. Program dates are:
    • May 26, 2026 - July 31, 2026
    • June 15, 2026 - August 21, 2026
      • *We will not be able to accommodate interns outside of these two program dates.

  • This role will be based at Archer - San Jose
  • Relocation and housing will not be provided.

Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
