Office Technician (Typing)
Job Description and Duties
The Department of State Hospitals - Napa currently has a full-time, permanent Office Technician (OT) vacancy in the HIMD. Duties include but are not limited to: Perform a variety of general and difficult office work; exercise a high degree of initiative, independence and originality in performing assigned tasks.
Provides secretarial support services including:
• Typing assignments such as correspondence, reports, forms
• Taking and preparing minutes of meetings
• Arranging meetings, scheduling appointments
• Opening and distributing mail
• Answering telephones
Provides and maintains various record keeping and filing systems, such as timekeeping, classifying, sorting and filing of various documents, and necessary purging.
Provides general and difficult office work support to the Legal Section at the Health Information Management Department.
• Logging incoming and outgoing correspondence in paper and electronic format
• Duplicating material using photocopying equipment
Scanning material using scanning equipment
Other related duties as assigned

A typing certificate is required for this Office Technician (OT) position. Please attach with your application a typing certificate issued within the last four years that certifies your ability to type at a speed of 40 WPM. We will honor typing certificates certified from a five (5) minute typing test that meets the CalHR requirements, with a minimum of 40 WPM (words per minute). No online typing certificates are accepted.

Special Requirements
- The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.
- The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
- The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
A typing certificate is required with your application. We will honor typing certificates issued within the last four (4) years and certified from a five (5) minutes typing test, with a minimum of 40 words per minute. Acceptable Certificates are from the following entities: Any CA State Agency/Department; The Employment Development Department’s (EDD) One-Stop Career Centers may offer free typing tests.
