Job Description

The Engineer is responsible for performing a variety of work including but not limited to, building maintenance, working on all HVAC equipment, electrical, plumbing, and supervision of the engineering / maintenance staff at the Galen Center on the USC campus in Los Angeles, California.

Compensation Data

COMPENSATION: The hourly rate for this position is $45 to $50. If both numbers are the same, that is the amount that Aramark expects to offer. This is Aramark’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for this position as of the time of posting.​

Job Responsibilities

• • Understanding of air conditioning principles / systems and the relevant codes and industry standards that govern the maintenance of HVAC equipment.
  • Monitor the operation and make adjustments on refrigeration, heat exchanger, HVAC, hot water systems, floor radiant heating systems; ELECTRICAL: emergency alarms and generators, fire pumps, 480-volt 3 phase distribution systems, 120-volt systems, components, lighting and low voltage systems. PLUMBING; boilers, piping, pumps, water softeners and water treatment.
  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces or installs a broad range of HVAC/R equipment and support systems for embassy operation and maintenance activities. Checks, services, cleans and replaces filters in all A/C air handling and heating units and documents the same.
  • Perform scheduled in-depth preventative maintenance and service/repair of HVAC mechanical systems and sub-systems, DDC control systems, air-handling evaporation systems, chillers, rooftop equip., split systems, window units, heating/cooling water circulation systems, relater fans, piping, pumps, ice machines, and other components.
  • Cleans and maintains grills, ducts, and shaft ways in A/C, ventilating, and exhaust systems.
  • Completes preventative maintenance as scheduled and keeps records and accounts for tools used.
  • Understands and demonstrates knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and refrigeration codes and practices, and coordinates work between/with other trades.
  • Responds to any emergency repair/maintenance situation as required if needed.
  • Ordering and purchasing with existing and new vendors.
  • Oversees annual REG 4 testing with vendor.
  • Schedule weekly/hourly engineering / maintenance staff and approve weekly payroll for the department.
  • Supervises and participates in building and facilities maintenance and repair.
  • Assures that proper safety standards and precautions are followed.
  • Inspects completed work by staff and vendors to ensure work is completed accurately.
  • Ensures that equipment is in proper working order.
  • Operates building tools and equipment and construction trades in a safe and effective manner as needed.
  • Train and counsel subordinate employees.
  • Prepares cost estimates on proposed projects.
  • Prepares and maintains department records for weekly and monthly reports.
  • Reports to Aramark Facilities GM.

Qualifications

• • HVAC Freon Certification, Universal refrigerant certification.
  • At least 5 years specific trade and technical experience with installations, repairs and troubleshooting in a commercial environment and supervising others.
  • HVAC – Plant maintenance experience with Chillers, hot water boilers, cooling towers, VFD’s, heat exchangers.
  • Ability to lift 20 - 50 lbs. regularly, climb stairs and ladders, and work indoors or outside in hot or cold temperatures.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule in a 24 / 7 environment.
  • Willing to take on other responsibilities as needed.
  • Must be able to communicate, read and understand instructions, safety rules and processes in English, some computer skills will be necessary.

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
