SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER COUNSELOR

Job Title: Substance Abuse Counselor

Department: Outpatient, Intensive Outpatient

Location: 2403 Professional Drive, Santa Rosa, CA & 790 Sonoma Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA

Status: Part time

Reports to: Program Manager

Classification: Non-exempt

Compensation: $28.00 for registered counselors, $33.00 for certified counselors.

Additional $2.00 per hour differential for Bilingual English/Spanish speaking counselors with completion of bilingual skills assessment.

Job Summary : Center Point DAAC is seeking passionate and experienced Certified Substance Abuse Counselors to join our) team. As a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, you will provide counseling and education to chemically dependent individuals, promoting recovery and well-being.

DUTIES:
Direct Treatment:
  • Serves as primary counselor to assigned clients.
  • Coordinates the patient’s treatment within the program. Discharges patients as appropriate in a timely fashion.
  • Provide weekly individual counseling sessions to assigned patients. Provide individual counseling to the general program population as needed.
  • Conduct urine sample collections.
  • Monitor urinalysis testing to ensure a minimum of one test per patient per month.
  • Treats clients and prospective clients with professionalism and courtesy always.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Conducts treatment evaluations and develops appropriate treatment plans.
  • Maintains thorough and efficient patient files in accordance with Title IX and Federal Regulations.
  • Positional appropriate knowledge of electronic health systems, and other applications as required.
  • Ensure that treatment plans are written every 3 months. Ensure that justifications are written every year.
  • Maintains weekly attendee tracking reports.
  • Ensures that all documentation is complete and thorough.
  • Conduct intake interviews, pre-admission assessments (ASAM), and patient background checks.
  • Meet report and treatment plan deadlines and completes other paperwork in a timely fashion.
  • Accurately record all urinalysis test results in patient files.

Teamwork, Training & Support:

  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings. Presents patients at weekly staff meetings as required.
  • Notifies internal and external stakeholders of treatment progress as necessary. Participates as a treatment team member.
  • Maintains close communication with the medical staff.
  • Provides support in the orientation and training of counseling interns.
  • Works effectively with front office staff, communicating schedule changes and other vital information. Assists in training and mentoring interns and “counselors in training” personnel in administrative and clinical aspects.
  • Performs special assignments as directed by the Program Manager. Participate in Utilization Committee Reviews (UCR).

Time & Accountability:

  • Maintains good attendance and punctuality.
  • Follows through on activities and responsibilities in a timely manner in accordance with regulatory standards. Ensures all license and certification requirements are current.
  • Maintain good attendance and be prepared to start work duties at the beginning of each shift.
  • Customer Service.
  • Responds to crisis and information calls from the community on an as-needed basis.
  • Treats clients and prospective clients with professionalism always.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Center Point DAAC leadership.


SKILLS & POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (College education is a plus).
  • Able to read, write, and speak English fluently (Spanish is a plus).
  • Possesses good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with clients and staff alike.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills to complete tasks in a high-quality, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated counseling skills and knowledge of addiction and treatment.
  • Maintain AOD certification and CEUs as required.
  • Maintain productive work relationships with patients, employees, management, external agencies, and the public.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries as defined in DAAC's Professional Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to use effective judgment in therapeutic and crisis situations.
  • Ability to recognize and manage personal bias.
  • Ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Ability to maintain your own psychological well-being.
  • Felony convictions within the past five years, misdemeanor convictions within the past two years, and any current charges should be discussed with the hiring manager and organizational leadership.
  • Maintains license and supporting CEUs as required.
  • Maintains current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of HIPAA and client privacy.

  • Constantly communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Constantly repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Occasionally noisy environments.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Constantly sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Occasional light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Infrequent and medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Ability to maintain a clear, understandable speaking voice, capable of communicating vital business information to internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management and co-workers by telephone and/or in person.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines while responding to crisis situations.
  • Availability for working evenings and/or weekends.
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required.
