Physician Assistant- Oncology, Santa Monica

The Physician Assistant (PA) functions in an interdependent role by implementing the appropriate "Delegation of Services Agreement" (DSA). Under Title 16, Article 4 of the California Code of Regulations. Section 1399.540 states "A physician assistant may only provide those medical services which he or she is competent to perform and which are consistent with the physician assistant’s education, training and experience and which are delegated in writing by a supervising physician who is responsible for the patients cared for by that physician assistant." By using the DSA the PA is able to change treatment regimen after observing signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to treatment, general behavior and physical condition, and determine if they are abnormal findings (Physician Assistant Business and Professions Code section 3502 and 3502.1 and Section 1399.545 of Title 16 of the California Code of Regulations). Provide and coordinate the care of oncology patients, provide patient/family education, promote safe continuity of care. Participate in interdisciplinary and clinical rounds, provide education and support as well as make appropriate referrals. Document services rendered.

Salary range: $79.49- $106.96/hourly

Qualifications

1. CA PA License-required

2. Graduated from an accredited PA program-required

3. National PA Board Certification-required

4. BLS Certification from AHA or ARC-required

5. NPI #, DEA-required

6. Ability to utilize excel, word and other software programs-required-required

7. 1-3 years of experience as a physician assistant in outpatient and/or inpatient clinical setting-preferred

8. Previous experience with medication management -preferred

9. Skill and communication theory and its applications in a healthcare facility. Skill in written and oral communication utilizing standard English grammar and vocabulary, as well as medical English

10. Skill in interviewing patients of different ages and cultures in order to obtain and provide information-required

11. Knowledge and skill to perform physician patient assessment through a standard physical examination-required

12. Detailed knowledge of laboratory test values such as CBC, urine analysis and drug levels-required

13. Working knowledge of patient teaching-required

14. Knowledge of problem solving techniques-required

15. Knowledge and skill in using personal computer for patient are and information management-required

16. Knowledge of interdisciplinary resources needed to coordinate patient care and facilitate referral-required

17. Knowledge and skill in wound care and treatment-required

18. Skill in organizing and prioritizing-required

19. Ability to ready, interpret, apply, and or follow physician orders, policies, procedures, and written/verbal instructions-required

20. Knowledge of policies and procedures and standards of care of UCLA Healthcare-preferred

21. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships with administrative, clinical and academic personnel-required

22. Skill in working independently and following through with minimum directions-required

23. Document patient care in a concise and comprehensive manner-required
