About the Role

DigiLens is seeking a curious, self-driven, and independent-thinking Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Advanced Manufacturing team at DigiLens. You will be responsible for the engineering design and development of systems for augmented reality displays. In your role, you will design electro-mechanical equipment to produce DigiLens’ next-generation waveguide displays and holographic manufacturing technology. The equipment will be used internally and shipped to world-class manufacturers that license our technology. Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Own all engineering design aspects of Advanced Manufacturing projects, largely consisting of waveguide manufacturing equipment, automation, or handling.
  • Develop new equipment concepts to improve yield, performance, or productivity.
  • Conduct design reviews to communicate intent, align the team, and get feedback.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to find root causes and develop and implement solutions to resolve them.
  • Architect new equipment that seamlessly integrates mechanical, controls, power, and software.
  • Generate technical drawings for fabricated part procurement; communicate with and drive vendors.
  • Support and conduct assembly and testing of equipment, tools, and processes.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation of designs, assembly, operation, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Frequently work on short development cycles, requiring rapid prototyping and iteration.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues for internal and external manufacturing.

Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Five years of industry experience in system design using SolidWorks or equivalent.
  • Solid knowledge of hardware design, GD&T.
  • Experience in designing static and dynamic mechanical systems.
  • Strong understanding of opto-mechanical principles and components.
  • Familiar with the principles of design using translation and rotation stages.
  • Familiar with the principles of rapid manufacture and prototyping.
  • Ability to recognize the impact and risks of adding new features to applications.
  • Hands-on experience in engineering and production environments.
  • Ability to apply data-driven problem-solving techniques.
  • Proven experience in quickly learning new technologies.
  • Self-driven and motivated, with the ability to work both independently and with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Strong customer-focused attitude.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Enthusiastic about AR technology.
  • Experience developing or supporting inkjet printing equipment.
  • Experience developing or supporting optical, projection, and display testing equipment.
  • Experience designing or supporting equipment in a high-tech application, such as semiconductors.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, LabVIEW, or similar environments.
  • Proficient in assembling optical systems, including handling and cleaning optics, interpreting technical documentation, and describing optical system components and assembly procedures.
