Construction Controller

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Construction Controller to join our finance team. This person will be cross-trained with our current Controller for succession as Financial Controller. The Controller will be managing the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls, with a focus on the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.


• Support the Controller in managing the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.


• Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.


• Assist in the preparation and review of budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.


• Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.


• Oversee the preparation of job cost reports and work-in-progress schedules.


• Coordinate with project managers to ensure accurate and timely billing and collections.


• Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls and accounting procedures.


• Prepare and review tax filings and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.


• Participate in audits and provide necessary documentation and support.


• Mentor and train junior accounting staff.

Authorities:

• Exercise the responsibilities and perform the duties of this position. This includes full decision-making authority for all responsibilities and/or duties.


• Spend up to $200 per month in petty expenses.


• Co-sign company checks.


• Set authority levels for direct reports (as long as authorities do not exceed your level).


• Communicate with customer regarding job progress, issues, billing, etc.


• Approve staff vacation schedules.


• Contact new and past suppliers to make requests for equipment and/or personnel.


• Contact customers regarding payment.


• Contact vendors regarding payment.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

· CPA certification preferred.

· Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.

· Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.

· Sage Intaact and Foundation software a strong plus. System Conversion experience.

· Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.

· Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· High attention to detail and accuracy.
