The Opportunity
School Psychologist — Competencies and Qualifications
Lighthouse Community Charter School is looking for a School Psychologist who is relentlessly committed to ensuring that traditionally underserved students achieve our mission of completing college and securing the career of choice. Lighthouse staff believe that this important mission is not only attainable; it is essential to transforming our Oakland community. The School Psychologist will be an integral part of the multi-tiered systems of support team (MTSS) which ensures all students receive necessary academic, behavioral, and socio-emotional supports to thrive in alignment with the Lighthouse Mission, Theory of Change, Graduate Profile, and Instructional Stances.
Roles and Responsibilities
Essential Responsibilities:
Conduct psycho-educational assessments for initial or triennial evaluations (including selecting appropriate instruments, administering tests, observing, and writing a report) and interpret results to parents, teachers, and administrators
Provide recommendations to the individualized education plan (IEP) team regarding eligibility, goals, accommodations, modifications, and services
Monitor caseload timelines and support with preparation for IEP meetings
Conduct educationally related mental health services, functional behavior assessments, and/or other assessments, as needed
Collaborate and/or provide oversight to other mental health clinicians to support the implementation of counseling services as identified in the IEP
Additional Responsibilities:
Design and facilitate professional development for staff regarding special education and other related topics, as needed
Support the development and implementation of multi-tiered systems of support, including intervention, data collection, collaboration with a range of stakeholders, documentation, and child find processes
Participate in student support team/coordination of services team meetings, as needed
Makes recommendations in cases of exemption, non-promotion, acceleration, class assignment change and other cases upon request
Assists in the development and implementation of effective individual educational plans for students, including consulting with parents and staff to support accommodations and modifications.
Support the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans, including staff consultation, training, and modeling of strategies
Provides crisis counseling for students, as needed
Participate in professional development to keep abreast of most recent case law, best practices in assessment, and other relevant content
May provide direct mental health or behavior intervention services to a select individual students or select groups on as needed basis
Maintain strong communication with caregivers
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree in appropriate field including: Psychology, School Psychology, Education Psychology, required
California Pupil Personnel Services Credential with School Psychology authorization, required
Experience working with youth in K-12, urban settings similar to our student population
Bilingual in Spanish, preferred
Environmental Requirements:
Able to work in:
Loud environments such as cafeterias, playgrounds, classrooms, and large professional settings
Indoor/Outdoor adaptability to all weather conditions related to outdoor activities and/or travel to field trips and school-sponsored events
Airconditioned and heated environments under fluorescent lighting.
Physical Demands:
Ability to: See and hear on a continuous basis and speak frequently. Sit and stand for extended periods of time. Stop, extend, kneel and reach. Lift up to 25 pounds. Walk for long periods of time. On rare occasions, would need to move quickly or run over smooth to uneven surfaces indoor/outdoor. Repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding and whiteboard usage. Occasional travel to sites for PD within and outside LCPS.
SUPERVISION
This position reports to Senior Director of Special Education.
TIME COMMITMENT
This position is 1.0 FTE (full-time exempt) and follows a 11-month work year (210 days) with significant student-free days for professional learning and collaboration with colleagues and interaction with families. All new staff will report in late July/early August 2022 (exact calendar TBD).
Common Building Hours: All teachers are expected to maintain common building hours for their school site. These may be subject to change for the 2025-26SY:
Campus Building Hours: 8:00 - 4:00 pm M, Tu, Th, Fri and 8:00-5:00 on Wednesdays for Professional Development.
Occasional evening events during the year including start of year Icecream Social, Back to School Night, Expo, and other events identified by the school calendar in advance
