Berry Production Specialist - Onsite

About the Opportunity

This role is 100% onsite. There is NO relocation assistance and NO sponsorship for work visas/permits available. Bilingual fluent English and basic Spanish required This position functions as Driscoll’s field representative with berry growers in the Northern District. Works with growers and ranch managers to collect, compile, analyze and present information on acreage, variety performance, farming practices, quality assurance and grower economics. Implements quality management plans for the district including watch lists and grower corrective action. Develop deep crop expertise to be able to provide the growers and Driscoll’s with updates on recommended production practices, variety performance and plant allocations for new plantings. Facilitates communication between the growers, ranch managers and other Driscoll’s departments such as Quality Assurance, Product Business Management, Food Safety, Breeding, Applied Research and Global Research. Advises on and coordinates with applied research and new variety deployment trials. The job requires occasional travel to other production districts and offsite production meetings.

Responsibilities

• Weekly field visits and occasional visits to other districts as needed. 

• Collect and update acreage information in production models within two months of planting and create ranch maps (GPS).

• Create, modify and extend to growers best management practices for berry production. Create reports and help update best management practice documents.

• Coordinate new variety trials and applied research trials as needed, and develop, with growers’ help, observational trials of novel production practices.

• Present on production practices and varieties as needed throughout the year and at pre- and post-harvest-season meetings in each district.

• Lead grower meetings and ranch tours. Represent the district at the weekly market update meetings.

• Provide support to the Berry Production Teams including giving updates on grower forecasting, following up on errors in grower estimates and assessing impacts of labor on harvest.

• Provide direction and assistance to the seasonal production employees. 

• Assist Berry Production Managers with plant allocation and distribution processes for the Northern District . Assist Rubus Production Managers with recording and maintenance of rubus production applications.

•  Assist with the selection and development of new varieties.

• Provide support and knowledge transfer to other districts as needed.
• Ensures the security of Driscoll’s proprietary and confidential information and material.
• Follows Company policies and practices while representing Driscoll’s in an ethical and business-like manner in all interactions with employees, government agencies, growers, customers, etc. Represent and support Driscoll’s culture, values and mission.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Candidate Profile

• Able to work onsite 100% of the time.
• High School Diploma.
• Must be computer literate with Microsoft Office software including MS Word, Powerpoint and Excel spreadsheets.
• Driver’s license.
• Bilingual English and Spanish.
• Able to travel internationally.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs.

  The following information is provided in good faith as a general description of the salary range and benefits for the position posted. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate is dependent upon experience, skills, education, work location, internal pay equity, and other objective job-related factors.

  Salary range estimated for this role is: $ 68,640 - $75,000 USD. Based on experience and qualifications.
