Software Engineer III

10x Genomics makes products that enable researchers to answer biology’s hardest and most elusive questions with single cell and spatial biology technology. Software is at the core of our products, accelerating our customers to insight by enabling them to analyze complex data faster and easier. Scientists have used our tools to discover the mechanisms behind Alzheimer's disease, cystic fibrosis, autism, stem cell differentiation, COVID-19, and more.

As a Software Engineer on the cloud team, you will play a pivotal role in developing cutting-edge, cloud-based applications that transform how 10x Genomics data is processed, visualized, and analyzed. You will collaborate with computational biologists, scientists, infrastructure teams, and other development teams. The solutions you build will be used globally by thousands of scientists and research labs. This role is hybrid in Pleasanton, CA.

What you will be doing

• Design, build, test, and ship production-ready software.


• Work with scientists, product management, design, and other software teams to shape new features and services.


• Create flexible, attractive UI components.


• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and backend logic to support frontend features and integrations.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or scientific discipline and 2 years of software development OR 4 years of professional experience building software.


• Experience developing web applications in React and Redux.


• Proficient in utilizing modern CSS features and TypeScript for web development.


• Experience with shipping and maintaining software.

Preferred skills and experience

• Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals (e.g. data structures, space and time complexity)


• Deep understanding of testing, build, continuous integration, deployment & continuous monitoring.


• Experience with a cloud environment and services (e.g. AWS)


• Willingness to solve problems irrespective of where it is in the tech stack.


• A background in biology is not required, but curiosity and scientific interest is.

Below is the base pay range for this full-time position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one’s skills, qualifications, and experience. At 10x, base pay is also just one component of the Company’s total compensation package. This role is also eligible for 10x’s equity grants, its comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs, and its annual bonus program or sales incentive program. During the hiring process, your 10x recruiter can share more about the Company’s total compensation package.

$159,200 - $215,400 USD
