About This Career Opportunity

As a member of the leadership team at Mercy Retirement and Care Center, this position is responsible for the direction of resident care in the skilled nursing setting. Manages nursing team members. Consults with staff and management team on nursing problems and interpretation of organizational policies to ensure resident needs are met. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Assists in formulating budget.

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

1. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the organization, as well as the focus statement of the department. Exhibits genuine interest in and appreciation of adults in the later years of life.

2. Initiates the development and implementation of policies and procedures that govern the Nursing Services in collaboration with appropriate services. Participates in SNF planning, decision making and policy formulation at management meetings. Maintains regulatory requirements.

3. Engages and supports Assisted Living and Memory Care programs and other departments within the CCRC structure.

4. Establishes and maintains job specifications and descriptions for Nursing Services personnel in conjunction with the organization.

5. Plans, develops, implements and controls the annual budget for the nursing personnel.

6. Represents Nursing Services on various committees, i.e., Infection Control, Pharmacy, Safety, Theft and Loss, Patient Care Policy Committee..

7. Participates in the performance improvement functions by collecting and verifying data, as needed. Chairperson Quality Assurance & Assessment Committee and Quality Improvement Committee.

8. Consults other departments, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the resident's needs. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of residents and their families.

9. Demonstrates knowledge of the geriatric resident and short term stay / rehabilitation programs. Evaluates nursing staff ability to assess and care for residents.

10. Directs departments to continuing education and in-service programs.

11. Coordinates and directs resident care and education by monitoring care plans and coaching nursing staff to improve the quality of care rendered.

12. Oversees the assessment of all residents and the completion and updating the Minimum Data Sets and Care Plans.

13. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, staffing, coaching and disciplinary actions of Skilled Nursing Facility staff.

14. Conducts licensed personnel and other staff meetings on a regular basis.

15. Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.

16. Completes annual educational requirements.

17. Ensures confidentiality of patient's records.

18. Is a motivated, independent individual who can organize workload so that all functions are completed appropriately.

Are You Qualified?

III. REQUIREMENTS :

Current Registered Nurse licensure in State of California. Three or more years of previous experience in all aspects of geriatric care nursing. Current certification in geronto logical nursing preferred. Current BCLS certification. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Basic to advanced computer knowledge required.

IV. SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

Sensitivity and knowledge of working with older adults and the aging process. Ability to identify need, develop and manage programs and system simultaneously. Collaborative spirit and desire to support the progress toward sustained excellence in all aspects of the CCRC operation. Supportive of the professional development of all staff. Ability to assume leadership in the absence of the Health Care Administrator.
