Aftercare Teacher
Part time position
The Oak Grove Aftercare program serves children 5-10 years old, providing care beyond the regular school day. This is an outdoor, play-based program with an emphasis on arts and crafts, projects, and being together. The ideal candidate for this position would have the ability to support a mixed age group while providing a nurturing environment that honors the age and stage of each student.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support students to transition from their school day into the Aftercare program
- Purchasing and preparing snacks
- Plan and implement activities, arts and crafts, and games
- Build connecting relationships with each student
- Support students with conflict resolution and social-emotional growth and development
- Oversee Aftercare registration
- Communicate directly with parents and homeroom teachers
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 6 ECE units or equivalent
- Experience working with 5-10 year olds
- BA preferred
Qualities:
- Nurturing, creative, and thoughtful
- Strong skills in supporting social-emotional growth and facilitating conflict resolution with students, and being in respectful partnership with parents
- Familiarity with the philosophy of the school (among other things, an inquiry-based approach to education in a non-competitive atmosphere), and an understanding of progressive education
- Self-motivated, self-disciplined, professional, and energetic
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues
- Organized, punctual, with strong follow-through skills
Hours:
The aftercare program runs from 2:30-5:00 pm four days a week and 12:00-5:00 pm on Wednesdays. Hours would range from 18 to 22 per week.
Compensation
$30- $35/hr. depending on experience
