Position Summary

Job Overview/Purpose

The Construction/Corporate Accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures. In addition, they will be responsible for construction project billing, job cost, subcontractor relations, and Compliance Management.

Job Requirements/Essential Duties

  • Monthly closings and preparation of monthly corporate financial statements.
  • Responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of development properties.
  • Issue monthly department budget reports and respond to inquiries.
  • Prepare and post journal entries.
  • General ledger operations.
  • Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts and income statement accounts.
  • Assist with year-end closings.
  • Administer accounts receivable/prepare and post deposits/cash receipts, misc. billing.
  • Responsible for all corporate and real estate investments accounts payable.
  • Review and post payroll journal entries.
  • Prepare bank transfers, ACH and wire payments.
  • Reconcile and enter credit card charges for select departments. Gather and file the receipts.
  • Monitor and resolve bank issues.
  • Account/bank reconciliations.
  • Review and process expense reports.
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Special projects as requested by the CFO.
  • Create bi-monthly check runs, review invoices and releases for payment.
  • Record project costs in all modules of the Construction Accounting System (general ledger, job cost, project commitments, lien releases, subcontractor payments, accounts receivable, and accounts payable).
  • Compile and review construction draws for multiple projects.
  • Track preliminary notices.
  • Regular follow-up on documents such as releases, change orders, etc.
  • Request releases from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Assist in contract generation, change orders, project billing, and insurance administration.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and job cost accruals.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and reconcile bank accounts.
  • Communicate and assist with handling legal issues, such as mechanic’s liens.
  • Work closely with subcontractors.
  • Maintain/respond to shared department email account.
  • Review and issue monthly allocations for cell phones and fuel.
  • Handle 1099 submissions for vendors.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skill & Abilities/Prerequisites

  • High school diploma, or equivalent and relevant experience.
  • 2-3 years of administrative construction management experience.
  • Construction Accounting Software: 3 years preferred
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively in a challenging environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced-level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to evaluate opportunities to streamline workflows using AI, including identifying repetitive tasks suitable for automation.
  • Ability to use AI to draft announcements, communication templates, tenant notices, and report summaries while maintaining accuracy and professional tone.
  • Ability to critically review and verify AI-generated content for accuracy, confidentiality, compliance, and alignment with the Towbes Group standard.
  • Ability to work in a manner consistent with having a high level of integrity, honesty, courage, and loyalty.

Mathematical Skills and Reasoning Ability

Ability to calculate figures and perform basic math functions. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, repetitive wrist movements, talk, hear, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may be required to stand for extended periods. The employee may occasionally lift, push, pull, carry and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
