Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Must be willing to work days or nights as required Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of professional nursing experience preferred License: Must possess current licensure in the state of employment Certifications: A valid driver's license is required Must-Have: Registered Nurse License Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider’s orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting with examinations and treatment of patients. Nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care and treatment of inmates/residents are applied. The RN performs all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of education and licensure. Appropriate nursing skills are utilized in the treatment of inmates/residents. Attendance at sick calls with physicians to see inmates/residents is required. The RN prepares a list of inmates/residents to be examined and ensures the examining room and equipment are ready. Medication is dispensed and documented as required by applicable policies. The RN communicates with Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders and other emergencies. New inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries are examined and assessed. Referrals to emergency rooms or appropriate healthcare facilities are made as needed. Emergency procedures are performed and Licensed Independent Providers are notified for treatment orders. The RN assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel. Monitoring of inmate/resident inpatient hospitalizations is conducted for early releases whenever appropriate. The RN provides guidance and supervision to licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff. Maintaining good working relationships with staff and providers is essential. Established policies and procedures are utilized in decision-making, alongside sound independent judgment. Regular evaluations of the provision of medical services are conducted to avoid inappropriate use or duplication of services. Confidentiality of all medical records is maintained. The RN assists with the review of medical files to ensure all provided services are documented. Close monitoring of all potential catastrophic illnesses is required. Pharmacy use is audited for adherence to formulary, as directed. Compliance with applicable pharmacy laws, particularly regarding controlled substances, is mandatory. Observation and recording of inmate/resident behavior are part of the responsibilities. Inspection of the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband is conducted. Health counseling and health education are provided on an individual or group basis as required. Assistance is given in preparing and maintaining various standard records, reports, and logs. Reading, analyzing, comprehending, and interpreting medical and technical procedures and documents is necessary. Processing and responding to lawsuits is required, and attendance at court hearings may be necessary. Facilitation of accreditation for the medical program is to be provided as applicable. Safety and accident reports are to be prepared and disseminated as required. Appropriate actions must be taken in serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
