Food and Beverage Supervisor

ABOUT ALCOVE & BIG BAR:
Alcove is a high volume, high quality café housed in two historic bungalows, surrounded by garden patios and terraces, known for our quality food, artisan baked goods, hand-roasted coffee, and fine teas.
Big Bar, Alcove’s acclaimed bar destination, serves all 225 seats on our property, and features creative hand-crafted cocktails derived from classics, as well as fine wines and craft beers.
WHAT WE SEEK:
Our dynamic business requires experienced floor supervisors (aka Keyholders), who are charged with ensuring positive guest experiences, overseeing and reconciling financial transactions, and promoting a safe and professional work environment. They are responsible for assigning Counter Servers tasks during their shifts, handling guest issues, following best practices and ensuring guest satisfaction. In the absence of the general manager and assistant general manager, the keyholder is the primary manager-on-duty and oversees all general operations for the entire business.
Essential duties and responsibilities include :
- Greeting guests with a warm and friendly welcome
- Taking and inputting customer orders accurately in the point of sale system
- Knowledgeable about all menus offered
- Cutting cakes and pies
- Brewing coffee and iced teas
- Preparing beverages including iced/hot teas, coffee and espresso-based drinks
- Stocking paper goods and plastic wares
- Resolving guest issues in a hospitable manner
- Communicating and relaying necessary information to the kitchen in a prompt manner
- Cash handling – counting and distributing/collecting all cash for the registers at the counter and bar, and researching/resolving/reporting any cash discrepancies.
- Accepting deliveries of baked goods (and all other FOH product), labeling each container with the proper date of delivery, and moved to the display cases or refrigerators in the kitchen
- Verifying and preparing some items for to-go orders
- Answering the telephone in a courteous and professional manner, while providing accurate information to guests and/or transferring to the appropriate person
- Assisting with the cleaning of the counter space and all relevant equipment
- Periodically check ticket times of food being prepared in the kitchen and check in with the kitchen manager on duty and/or expeditor (approximately every 30-60 minutes).
- Periodically walk the premises (bar, interior and exterior guest seating areas) to ensure guest satisfaction and cleanliness. Check restrooms for cleanliness. (approximately once per hour).
- Following all regulations as outlined by the health department and any other regulatory agencies as the rules pertain to safety in a food and beverage environment
- Position may include standing/walking for long periods of time and lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds.
- Beyond serving as an individual contributor for all service responsibilities outlined above, the keyholder is accountable to ensure other employees demonstrate the same standards.
- Minimum two to three years of supervisory experience in a fast, high volume, quality restaurant and/or cafe that sets and achieves specific standards for all aspects of operations.
- Proven track record of enhancing the customer experience.
- Proven ability to lead a team, using a professional, positive and developmental style.
- Demonstrated “hands-on” work ethic and active floor presence, running food, etc., when needed.
