Arellano Associates is a public communications and strategic marketing consulting firm focused on stakeholder engagement in the transportation, energy, water and planning sectors across California. We work closely with public agencies, governments, and private-sector clients on infrastructure projects in all phases of development including: planning, environmental, design and engineering, and construction. To deliver quality communication programs for our clients, we have an in-house Innovations Team that is comprised of specialists focused on technology, social and digital media, and creative design, where the Media Artist position resides. The ideal candidate for the Media Artist position would be capable of performing a variety of different creative tasks, including graphic design, photo and video production, animation, website development / support and digital storytelling. This position is responsible for developing content that engages target audiences through the use of graphics, videos, websites, and other media elements. Travel and on-site work will be required from time to time, to assist with photos, videos, and general production work. The primary goal of this position is to capture a project's purpose and bring it to life using digital tools and software. This position will report to the Innovations Manager and be part of the Innovations Team that produces everything from public-facing fact sheets and social content, interactive maps, video vignettes, and website content that drives public engagement for some of California's biggest and noteworthy public infrastructure projects.Key Responsibilities
- Visual Content Creation: Design and produce visual content, including graphics, animations, videos, and audio, using the full Adobe suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere and After Effects)
- Photography / Videography: Capture and edit high-quality video content and motion-graphics for various internal and external projects for various mediums, including web, social and events. Manage video archives and organize footage.
- Branding Collateral: Design and produce a variety of branding collateral, including presentations, FAQ sheets, proposals, and various other materials. Ensure consistent visual quality across all deliverables.
- Copywriting: Assist with copywriting for a variety of marketing assets such as landing pages, email series, display ads, social media posts, etc.
- Narrative Development: Assist in creating storyboards and scripts, which includes understanding the purpose of the communication, ensuring brand alignment, and creating clear takeaways for projects.
- Web Design and Development: Support projects by creating and maintaining websites and mapping projects. Maintain site links and information and enforce brand standards to help engagement.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with Innovations Team staff to produce small and large media projects for Arellano Associates and its clients. Collaborate directly with Project Managers, project staff, and clients.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Video Editing and Production: Possess proficiency in video editing and production technology, including visual effects, visual effects, and compression.
- Availability: Be available to attend client meetings and in-person events during workday, evening, and weekend hours.
- Adobe Proficiency: Possess proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects required). Experience with Canva a plus, but not necessary.
- Other Software Proficiency: Be competent in Microsoft Office, OneDrive/SharePoint, Google Maps, Google Drive, Constant Contact, and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn).
- Digital Engagement Tools: Be familiar with online survey tools like SurveyMonkey, MetroQuest, Poll Everywhere, TypeForm, WordPress, and Geosocial interactive mapping.
- Mapping Software: Knowledge of mapping applications such as ArcGIS and StoryMaps is a plus.
- Web Development Languages: Posses basic HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or other relevant web design experience is a plus, but not necessary.
Minimum Requirements
- 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred
- Bachelor's degree in design, media, film or similar field preferred.
- Comfortable in fast-paced, mission-driven environments
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Be detail-oriented, flexible, and able to multitask in a dynamic environment.
- Be available to attend client meetings and in-person events during workday, evening, and weekend hours.
