About us The Data Ingestion team in the Data Platform organization provides platforms for ingestion of thousands of data sets from various source systems such as RDBMS, File Stores, No SQL, and Streams into the Data Lake with near real time latencies. The P/SAAS managed by the Data Ingestion team are used company-wide for transferring weblogs, transactional and dimensional data into the Data Lake for consumption in business analytics, data modeling, data science and machine learning projects. The Data Ingestion team supports simultaneous ingestion of 5000+ datasets and billions of rows on daily basis. Our vision is to provide modern self-service tools to enhance engineering productivity, making it easy for anyone to use our data, and build a platform that is consistently scalable and reliable. We are looking for a software engineer who will help create a robust, scalable, and reliable stream processing platform.

Role Overview

As a Backend Engineer in Data Platform org., you will handle the design, development, and maintenance of Stream Processing Platform and help team build modern streaming data pipeline architecture and applications to enable our customers to make fast business decisions. You will need to ensure a reliable and robust platform to deliver correct results on time.

Responsibilities:

• Design and build Coupang's next generation Stream Processing platform.
• Design and build self-serve near real time data transformation framework for company-wide usage.
• As a Backend Engineer, you will take part in business/technical improvement projects from a data platform perspective.
• Engage in design and code review with the team to ensure high quality deliverables and enforce industry best practices.
• Develop best practices and frameworks for unit, functional and integration tests for our team's test coverage and automation.
• Foster, mentor, and enforce industry best practices in data architecture design, design patterns and coding standard.

Basic Qualifications

• BS or advanced degree in Computer Science, or related technical field.
• 8+ years of experience in building software and solutions.
• Experience in one or more programming languages such as Java, Scala, Python, Go or Kotlin.
• Experience in distributed processing using EMR, Spark, Hive, or other big data frameworks.
• Solid fundamentals in OO design, data structures, and algorithms.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Cloud Computing platforms and understanding of scaling and reliability issues.
• Experience in designing, building, and supporting highly scalable backend applications and platforms.
• Experience in Stream-processing systems (Kafka, Storm, Spark-Streaming, Apache Flink or equivalent).
• Experience in big data technologies such as EMR, Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Presto, Redshift, Airbyte, etc.
• Familiarity with workflow or orchestration frameworks, open-source tools like Airflow and Luigi or commercial enterprise tools.
• Knowledge of container services (Docker/Kubernetes) is a plus.

Pay & Benefits Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation. The base pay for this position ranges from $142,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $309,000/year in our highest geographic market.
