We are hiring an Interim Head of Human Resources. Reporting to the CEO, this person leads the Human Capital team, including Human Resources and Volunteer Services. This executive role develops and implements people strategies that support organizational goals and business objectives while serving as a trusted advisor to leadership on workforce and organizational matters. The Interim Head of Human Resources oversees all aspects of human resources, including employee relations, compensation and benefits, payroll, talent acquisition and retention, performance management, training and development, workers' compensation, risk management, HR systems, and compliance. The role also provides leadership for the Volunteer Services program, ensuring effective volunteer recruitment, engagement, and retention in support of the organization's mission.

Some of the Essential Functions:
  • Lead and support the Volunteer Services program, maximizing volunteer contributions to mission-driven, operational, and administrative activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with HR policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with federal and state employment laws.
  • Oversee employee benefits programs, including plan design, administration, market competitiveness, and cost management.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and training to managers and supervisors on employee relations, performance management, and workplace best practices.
  • Resolve employee and management concerns, complaints, and disputes in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Manage HR systems and technology to support organizational effectiveness and reporting.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and oversee corrective and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Ensure completion of required employee training, including harassment prevention, HIPAA, and other compliance-related programs.
  • Manage workers' compensation programs, focusing on claim reduction, cost control, and return-to-work initiatives.
  • Oversee payroll operations to ensure timely, accurate processing and continuous improvement of payroll practices.
  • Administer the performance management program, ensuring employees have clear job expectations and managers are supported in delivering effective performance reviews.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and employment documentation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex HR, administrative, and financial concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities, programs, and stakeholders while driving organizational goals.
  • Skilled at building collaborative relationships with employees, leaders, vendors, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess systems and processes, identify improvement opportunities, and implement effective solutions.
  • Composed, resourceful, and diplomatic, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Unwavering commitment to confidentiality, sound judgment, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Proven ability to influence, motivate, and gain cooperation across all levels of an organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible human resources experience, including at least two years focused on employee relations within a predominantly non-exempt workforce.
  • Five or more years of HR leadership experience.
  • SPHR certification preferred.
