Embedded Software Engineer, Onboard Platform

Responsibilities

• Build safety-critical software that controls the base machine and monitors Bedrock system health with strict isolation and deterministic real-time execution.
• Develop across the embedded software stack, including drivers, RTOS, communications, middleware, and applications.
• Interface with and control heavy machinery across machine types and manufacturers while designing flexible, portable abstractions.
• Extend the platform to embedded devices for power management, sensor cleaning, lighting, and other field operations.
• Architect, build, and own major areas of the embedded safety controller and lead projects and design decisions across hardware, autonomy, and platform teams.

Requirements

• Experience building and shipping embedded systems in robotics, automotive, drones, or other safety-critical embedded contexts.
• Strong embedded programming skills in a systems language such as C++ or Rust, plus fluency in Python for scripting and analysis.
• A solid foundation in developing software for resource-constrained systems with real-time requirements.
• Ability to develop, automate, and debug across the hardware/software boundary.
• A track record of leading projects, driving design decisions, and collaborating across hardware, autonomy, and platform teams.
• Preferred: production or embedded Rust experience; familiarity with CAN, Ethernet, and J1939; and experience with ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or DO-178C functional safety standards.
