OPERATIONS INTERN AT THE OFFICE OF EXPOSITION PARK
Job Description and Duties

OEPM seeks a Student Assistant to fill the role of Operations Intern. Under the supervision of the Deputy General Manager, the Student Assistant performs work to support the Office of Exposition Park Management, including administrative support, familiarization with policy and procedures, communications assistance, event support, community outreach activities to learn about office operations, programs and special events. Under the working title, Operations Intern, the incumbent assists staff with day-to-day clerical and administrative support activities, maintaining records and tracking logs, preparing and organizing documents, assisting with communications and outreach materials, assisting with organizing and maintaining policy materials, and updating spreadsheets and files related to operations, events, and community engagement activities.
This non-tenured intermittent position will be limited to working up to 1,500 hours in a 12-consecutive month period. No health, dental, or vision benefits are provided for persons in this classification.
All applicants for Student Assistant positions must meet the following departmental eligibility requirements:
1. Enrolled in six (6) semester/nine (9) quarter units.
2. Must be in good academic standing with a 2.0 grade point average in the most recently completed academic term.
3. Declared a major related to the duties of the advertised position and enrolled in coursework required for that major.

Work is primarily performed in an office environment using standard office equipment. The incumbent may occasionally assist with meetings and events by supporting administrative and logistical activities under staff supervision and may be needed to work occasional evenings or hours outside of normal business hours based on operational needs.Special Requirements
The selected candidate will be required to submit to pre-employment hiring clearances which include the following: Department of Justice Livescan fingerprint and medical testing for tuberculosis, within three business days of receipt of a conditional offer of employment.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
• Current enrollment in an accredited college, university, vocational, or graduate educational program.
• Coursework in public administration, business administration, communications, event management, political science, recreation administration, or a related field.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work effectively under close supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe, PowerPoint, and Teams.
• Ability to organize, maintain, and update electronic and paper files, records, and documentation.
• Experience performing clerical, administrative, customer service, or office support duties through employment, internships, volunteer service, or academic activities.
• Ability to accurately enter, track, and maintain information in spreadsheets, databases, or other tracking systems.
• Ability to review information for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
• Ability to work collaboratively and establish effective working relationships with diverse individuals and teams.
• Ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
• Interest in public service, state government operations, administrative support functions, or event support activities.

HEALTHY WORKPLACE/HEALTHY FAMILIES ACT PAID SICK LEAVE
An employee who works for 30 or more days within a year is entitled to paid sick leave. Employees will earn 24 hours of sick leave each calendar year. An employee can use accrued sick leave beginning the 90th day of employment. Unused sick leave does not carry over and is not eligible for cash out at the termination of employment. Employees appointed on a temporary intermittent basis are not eligible for health, dental or vision benefits.
THIS IS A TEMPORARY INTERMITTENT POSITION
Temporary Intermittent employment is irregular hourly employment that is less than full time each year. It is used to provide a trained work force available on an "on-call" basis to supplement a department's full-time staff in handling peak workloads.
Temporary Intermittent employees are not appointed from a civil service employment list. Employees are scheduled for less than six months, if employed on a daily basis, or less than 1,000 hours in a given fiscal year (July 1 - June 30), if employed on an hourly basis. Temporary intermittent employees do not serve a probationary period, or gain civil services status.
Temporary Intermittent employees serve at will which means, TI's are free to terminate their employment at any time, with or without reason. Likewise, the department also has the right to terminate Temporary Intermittent (TI) employment at any time, with or without reason.
