Accounts Receivables Specialist II
The Accounts Receivable Specialist II submits billing to the appropriate party, follows up for adjudication, and posts payments of individual claims. Is proficient in all the functions of the accounts receivable specialist job. The Accounts Receivable Specialist II also communicates with patients, government agencies, and third-party payers.
Essential Duties
- Assist with billing when needed, process claim corrections, reconciliation, and refunds/credit balances, and send out patient statements.
- Perform follow-up in accordance with Departmental protocol with an emphasis on maximizing patient satisfaction and profitability.
- Post payments received from patients and insurance providers accurately.
- Answers billing-related questions from patients, providers, and insurance companies.
- Verifies insurance information to ensure accurate billing.
- Ensures compliance with all healthcare regulations and privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA).
- Shares in answering all incoming calls and helping customers in the Business office.
- Provides general office support and other job-related duties assigned.
- Follows and adheres to the Employee Handbook and MMHC policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred.
- Experience in medical billing, collections, account reconciliation, and report preparation.
- Proficient in data entry, record keeping, and computer operations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Knowledge of basic accounting skills.
- Ability to multitask and work independently despite interruptions.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal relationships and customer service skills.
- Strong telephone etiquette.
- Ability to flex with changing work duties.
- Willingness to learn FQHC policies and procedures.
- Willingness to learn NextGen operating systems.
- Ensure HIPAA compliance with billing.
Physical requirements
- Bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching above and below the shoulder.
- Handling/grasping documents or office equipment.
- Sitting or standing for short or extended periods.
- Clear speaking and adequate hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in person or on the telephone.
- Vision is sufficient to read source materials and computer screen data, with or without corrective lenses.
- Repetitive motions with computer equipment use.
- Occasional lifting to 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office environment using standard equipment with moderate background noise. It is a daytime shift only, Monday through Friday. Most of the day is spent viewing a computer monitor. The work environmental characteristics described here represent those employees encounter while performing the job's essential duties.
