Sewing Machine Repair Technician
About the Company
Meissner Sewing & Vacuum Centers is a family-owned business headquartered in Sacramento, California operating since 1930. Meissner offers sales and service of home sewing machines, industrial sewing machines and vacuums as well as a wide array of classes of events at their 5 retail locations across Northern California. Customers attribute Meissner’s success to a wide selection of top-quality products as well as an incredible staff and a fun-loving, creative environment at each retail store.
About the Position
Meissner is hiring a Sewing Machine Repair Technician to service and repair sewing machines, long-arm quilting machines, embroidery machines ranging from single-needle to 10-needle design, and heavy-duty industrial sewing machines designed to sew leather, upholstery and more.
Meissner’s current team of nine Sewing Machine Repair Technicians typically work Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Meissner retail store on Cormorant Way in Sacramento. Technicians repair and service machines, including a standard “clean, oil and lubricate” service as well as replicating customers’ machine issues and troubleshooting solutions. Brands commonly serviced include JUKI, BERNINA, CONSEW, SINGER and BROTHER. Occasionally, technicians provide on-site repair services, traveling to a customer’s home or business. Technicians research needed parts and work with our parts department to order replacement parts for machines. Technicians also use a point-of-sale system to track detailed notes on customer repairs and to look up previous repair history. Technicians speak with customers and Meissner Store Managers as well.
We Provide Training
You don’t have to know sewing machines to be a Sewing Machine Repair Technician. Meissner will provide training!
Many of Meissner’s Sewing Machine Repair Technicians have a background in mechanics, electrical servicing, handyman services, HVAC repair, auto mechanics, small machine mechanics and appliance repair.
Meissner will provide comprehensive in-person, written and online training for all technicians. The company will cover costs for the technician to attend in-person manufacturer training for certification on specific machines. Manufacturer training will be coupled with additional in-person training at the Meissner store alongside another experienced technician. All technicians have access to ongoing online training available on-demand and for use while repairing machines. Meissner also provides tools to review written instructions through manuals and online tutorials for machine repair.
During onboarding and training, the new hire will work in tandem with an experienced technician. He/she will also watch training videos and read training instructions. The new technician will begin completing simple repairs and, as he/she feels more comfortable, will gradually work toward more complicated repairs. The Service Manager, who also serves as a Sewing Machine Repair Technician, will be available to answer questions and help explain repair processes.
